Cold Comfort Farm

The farm is filled with oddball and eccentric characters, but Flora is unfazed. She transforms them, and the dilapidated farmhouse, into elegant sophisticates. I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings

Based on the autobiography of Maya Agelou, I know Why the Caged Bird Sings is the story of a girl growing up in a racist Arkansas in the Depression. Maya is shuttled back and forth between her grandmother's and mother's house. Then, something terrible happens to Maya and causes her to retreat into silence. As valedictorian of her graduating class, she finally shares her deepest thoughts and feelings in her address to the school.

This is another directorial debut, this time by Chinese Xiao-Yen Wang. Xiao-Yen tells the story of her own childhood in China during the Cultural Revolution in 1970. The girl heroine is named Shi-wei, and she is gutsy and daring and lucky enough to have a mother who encourages her to make the most out of her life.

When Percy Talbot arrives by bus one day in tiny Gilead, Maine, the townspeople camore movies...her. Percy's job as a waitress at the Spitfire-owner Hannah won't put up with any of their nonsense. Hannah's trust in Percy deepens as she relies on her more and more. Percy is thoughtful and gentle, and she has been through a lot in life and definitely deserves a break, but the question is, can the townspeople see beyond who they think she is?
